Ballater Resilience Group (BRG)
A Sub-Committee of Ballater & Crathie Community Council

The Ballater Resilience Group (BRG) supports the community by helping local residents prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Operating across the eastern area of the Community Council boundary, the group works closely with the Ballater & Crathie Community Council, Aberdeenshire Council, and the Emergency Services to strengthen safety and resilience throughout the community.
Our purpose
The BRG plays an important role in helping ensure that Ballater is ready and equipped to deal with unexpected events—from severe weather and flooding to power outages and other emergencies that may affect local residents. The group is focused on practical preparedness, effective response, and supporting the well-being of individuals and families during challenging situations.

What we do
Working under the direction of the Community Council, the Ballater Resilience Group:

Identifies local resilience needs
-
Proactively assesses emergency risks, resource gaps, and priority issues affecting households, businesses, and key community locations.

Supports community-wide preparedness
-
Encourages personal, family, and neighbourhood resilience by promoting simple, practical steps residents can take to be ready for emergencies.

Plans and coordinates emergency actions
-
Helps identify local skills, volunteers, safe locations, equipment, and actions that may be needed during an emergency. Ensures these plans reflect community views and local knowledge.
Manages essential equipment
-
Specifies, purchases, maintains, and replaces resilience equipment and consumables that may be required during emergency situations.
Trains local volunteers
-
Recruits and trains community volunteers to assist during emergencies, ensuring they are ready to support residents under the guidance of the group’s coordinators.
Working with the community
The BRG acts as a vital link between residents, the Community Council, and emergency responders. By combining local understanding with practical planning, the group helps ensure that when emergencies occur, the community can react swiftly, safely, and with confidence.
