Flood Issues Group (FIG)
A Sub-Committee of Ballater & Crathie Community Council

The Flood Issues Group (FIG) works on behalf of the Ballater & Crathie Community Council to help protect our community from the impacts of flooding. Formed in response to local need and ongoing environmental challenges, the group brings together community representatives, local knowledge, and technical insight to support long-term resilience across the area.
Our purpose
The FIG supports the Community Council by identifying flooding risks, listening to local views, and helping to shape practical, realistic solutions. Working under the direction of the BCCC, the group focuses on:

Understanding local flood risks
-
Proactively assessing issues that may affect homes, businesses, roads, and community spaces within the Community Council area.
Building community consensus
-
Helping to develop a shared understanding of what level of flood protection is achievable and desirable, ensuring the community’s voice shapes future decisions.
Coordinating community-supported actions
-
Gathering local feedback, reviewing relevant evidence, and communicating well-supported proposals and recommendations to the appropriate authorities.
Promoting safety and wellbeing
-
Supporting measures that enhance the resilience, preparedness, and overall safety of residents across Ballater & Crathie.
Working with the community
The Flood Issues Group plays a key role in connecting residents, the Community Council, and external agencies. By ensuring that local experience and concerns are heard, understood, and represented, the group aims to help deliver flood protection solutions that are both effective and community-led.
